Azimut 55S video

Azimut’s new 55S is a stunningly contemporary take on the sports cruiser theme. The triple IPS600 pod drive installation equipped with supercharged and turbocharged engines may intimidate some potential buyers – surely the only thing less wallet-friendly than a twin engined boat is one with three engines! – but Azimut claims that the design is smaller in dimension and lower in weight when compared to traditional shaft-drive configurations. There are dual forward-facing and counter-rotating propellers that Azimut suggests eliminate vibration, maximise thrust and neutralise directional deviation.

The interior of the 55S sets impressive standards for style and ease of use. The combined saloon and cockpit creates one huge entertaining space, and the 4sq metre sliding sunroof really does allow a spectacular amount of light in. Downstairs there are three cabins, all of a good size and beautifully styled. However, it is the crew cabin that provides the biggest surprise. Instead of being tucked away aft, it is positioned in the front of the hull, and accessed via a hatch.

The stern garage door is a single integral structure combining the swim platform. When opened, the garage door exposes the 2 metre wide teak laid swim platform which can be submerged and disappears beneath the stern. With an additional movement the garage door can be further inclined to launch and recover the tender. The garage structure is entirely moulded out of carbon-fibre and offers optimal storage for a Williams 285 Jet Tender.

In order to reduce weight and improve performance, hi-tech construction materials such as carbon-fibre are utlised, strengthening floor panels and other structural elements. The overall result is that structural bulkheads of the master cabin, engine room, garage and the whole overall superstructure boast greater solidity and strength and ensuring high-level performance.
